The Federal Reserve surprised markets by deciding to keep buying $85 billion of Treasury and mortgage bonds a month, after weeks of speculation that it would announce a start to the tapering of its asset-buying programme at its September meeting. Delighted that the easy-money tap is not being turned off just yet, investors pushed stockmarkets to record highs. The hazy daze of Summers Larry Summers withdrew his name for consideration to be the Fed's next chairman, after a handful of Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee indicated that they would oppose him.

While quite a number of English-Japanese dictionaries of business and legal terms have been publishedin Japan, there seem to be very few Japanese-English dictionaries on the market which give clear explanations of thesubtle differences in meaning between the various English equivalents of terms in such specialized fields.
