Sir - Your article on the change in leadership at Tata Sons did not comprehend the structure and governance of the Tata group of companies, which affected the soundness of your conclusions ("From pupil to master", December ist). The notion that the Tata group is a loose "federation" with "weak" central functions is incorrect. Tata Sons guides and upholds the principles, ethics and values at all Tata companies. The highest standards of corporate governance are practised. The companies' boards are independent with members selected on the basis of their credentials, and not because they are "allies" of Ratan Tata, as you suggest. They are collectively accountable to shareholders.
