Meet Robert Kuok, the quintessential Asian ty-coon. Ethnically Chinese, Mr Kuok spent several of his eight decades collecting bitter memories of abuse by the Malay majority in his native Malaysia. So Mr Kuok, like most of South-East Asia's hua-qiao, or overseas Chinese, early on made it his aim in life to build a better future for his children. This meant amassing wealth, spreading it across countries and industries to reduce risk, and above all keeping quiet about it.
