Q: I have an AC100. The machine was starting to become very inaccurate in the X axis and I noticed a noise coming from the rear of the machine when the axis was changing direction. It seems like it is coming from under the large black cover on the rear of the work tank. Do you know what I should look at because we have already performed some of the testing you talked about in a previous issue? A: This is another problem that we found that I forgot to put into the previous article! There is a coupling between the motor and ball screw. This'cou-pling has a soft nylon bushing that is installed between the metal coupling section on the motor and the metal coupling section on the end of the ball screw. The nylon bushing allows flexing between the motor and the ball screw and also prevents the heat that is generated in the motor from getting to the ball screw.
