Energy utilities believe in themselves again and so does Wall Street. They have money to spend after years of tight-fisted saving, and they believe they have something worth spending it on. The financial figures for 2004 reinforce belief in the industry's recovery, and investors are poised to take advantage of opportunities for growth. For one thing, after years of waiting for an energy bill, it's finally become law. For another, PUHGA 1935's demise is complete. We also saw surprisingly positive results on the non-regulated investment side in 2004, another reason for optimism, and that rotten post-Enron hangover is just a memory now. No longer left out in the cold, utility holding companies are invited to the Wall Street party once more.
