Limiting fault currents by means of superconducting current limiters has been topic of intensive international research for many years. Superconducting current limiters make use of the super- conducter's transition from superconducting to normal conducting state, and therefore it works like a nonlinear resistance. Due to its intrinsic physical proterties the superconducting current limiter comes close to an ideal limiter.
