摘要

The present paper reports cyclic voltammetry and alternating current (a.c.) impedance spectroscopic study on electrosorption of urea (U) in 0.1 M NaOH electrolytic medium, carried out at Pt(111) single-crystal surface, which is the only low-index Miller plane, where potential ranges for adsorption of H and OH species in alkaline medium are widely separated by the potential range for double-layer charging. Revealed electrochemical behaviour of U at the (111) plane is evaluated through the analysis of a.c. impedance-derived kinetic parameters. The above is supplemented with the discussion of possible involvement of the so-called ion-pairing interactions between chemisorbed U and OH− electrolyte species, as compared with the behaviour previously reported at Pt for guanidine and N,N-dimethylguanidine (DMG), i.e. two structure-related molecules to U, examined both in acidic and alkaline media.
