Last few years have shown, that electrification of a car is inevitable. New electromechanical systems are in development, e.g.: electric propulsion system for hybrid and electric vehicle, electric climate compressor, etc. At the same time, traditional systems like power steering, water and oil pump are being redeveloped, with the aim to increase their efficiency and reduce their weight. This is possible by using electromechanical actuation with controlled electric motor. Today, the average number of electric motors installed in a middle class vehicle is about eighty. Average weight of mounted electric motors is about 28 kg. Introducing of new technologies will continuously increase demand for electric motors in power range from few W to hundreds of kW. Additionally, there are very broad requirements' spectrums for such e-motors, e.g.: different types (synchronous, asynchronous, brush type, reluctance, etc.), different voltages (low voltage < 60 V, higher voltage, e.g. 400 V), various cooling methods (air, water, oil cooling), size, power etc. All of these, due to reduced development time to market, require know-how in area of development of electric machines with considering of following aspects: modularization, materials (magnet, lamination), high volume production, manufacturing tolerances, costs, etc. These requirements are apart of know-how necessary for the design and production of optimized electric motors for high-volume automotive applications.
