When Imagistics International Inc., the former $650 million document imaging, copier and facsimile machine unit of Pitney Bowes Inc., was spun off as an independent company last year, among the first things it needed was an enterprise resource planning system. The former parent company was simultaneously making plans to deploy its own ERP implementation with a system from Germany's SAP AG and Imagistics had to comply with legal requirements that it separate its financial records from those of Pitney Bowes. If Imagistics didn't act quickly, it was at risk of being left behind with only legacy systems. "Pitney Bowes was getting off their legacy systems," says Joseph D. Skrzypczak, GFO for Trumbull, Conn.-based Imagistics. "We really had no choice other than to inherit those old systems and try to work with that or try to do something which would add a lot more marketing power to our organization."
