摘要

All advanced DSP chips and cores exploit parallelism and higher throughput by executing multiple instructions per clock cycle. But further performance gains can be achieved by manipulating more data types per instruction. This is the key to a popular strategy called SIMD (single instruction, multiple data) execution. SIMD is especially useful in I/O-intensive applications, such as media processing or multiprocessing, because the architecture lets an I/O write be performed during the same cycle as data and instruction fetches.
