The history of the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) began in the 1940s with informal summer meetings called "fish fries." These brought Montgomery Elevator Co. managers and their independent distributors together for an annual weekend of relaxing and casual discussion of their mutual problems. This meeting expanded in 1944, when Montgomery invited Security Fire Door, The Peelle Co. and Elevator Supplies Co. to participate.
