The government of Uzbekistan has increased the tax payable pernsubscriber by mobile operators, due from January 1 2013. Operatorsnwill have to pay UZS500 per month in 2013, UZS100 more thannthey paid in 2012. The tax could squeeze operator profitability.nHowever, BMI believes that, following the suspension of MTS'noperating licences in 2012, which reduced the intensity of competition,nit is likely that a large part of the cost of the tax will be passednonto consumers.
