Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL — Oak Ridge, Tennessee) are putting the finishing touches on a new world-class laboratory that will be used to assess the direct and indirect thermal and moisture behavior of construction materials and wall systems. One of the lab's first endeavors will be to troubleshoot the moisture problems that have plagued buildings in the Pacific Northwest and to develop new wall designs appropriate for cool, wet climates (see main story, page 1).
