A brand is ownership of a piece of the mind of the customer. It gives instant recall when the brain is triggered by a connection between a need and a solution. Hopefully that trigger is when a customer has a need for a service or product and thinks of yours first. Any size of company or organisation can have a brand. You do not need to be known globally - but you do need to be known in the minds of your clients and potential clients. So the aim is to have a brand known by sufficient people to guarantee a profit. If you are a start-up, you piggyback on someone else's brand, through joint promotions.
