Members of the Cambridge Model Engineering Society have reported the untimely death of Peter Taylor, who was killed in a road accident very close to his home in Winsford on Sunday 18th July this year. Peter was well known and respected throughout the model engineering fraternity as a very capable engineer. He built a 5″ gauge GSWR Baltic locomotive (which took some 20 years, as Peter always enjoyed having a number of projects on the go); a 3(1/2)″ gauge Juliet locomotive; and a fine 7(1/4)″ gauge BR Class 2 Tank locomotive. He also restored his 5″ gauge 2-6-4 Tank engine twice, a locomotive which had been passed on to him by his father. At the time of his death he was building a further two 7(1/4)″ gauge locomotives. He was both a committee member and secretary of the Cambridge society, but when his work with Cambridge University ended in 1979, Peter moved to Winsford, joining the South Cheshire Club for the rest of his steaming days. Peter will be remembered at many clubs throughout the country, but probably most at South Cheshire, Cambridge and of course by the regulars at Rydale's 'Gilling weekends'.
