Construction is the ultimate team sport. Through the ACE Mentor Program, we're working together as an industry to create the next generation of professionals and tradespeople who will compete in the future. Through ACE, high school students are learning about and choosing careers in our industry, while mentors gain satisfaction in giving back, develop professional skills and establish industry relationships. Mentors are certainly the creative engine to our success. Affiliate teams have found many inspired ways to engage students in fun design and building projects as a way to introduce them to our industry. For instance, one group of mentors and students opted to redesign one of the student's grandparents' house with ramps and other ADA-compliant elements as their final project. Once designed, the team found a way to construct the necessary repairs, which will allow the grandparents to stay in their home as they age. What a great combination of ACE and community spirit! That's the beauty of the ACE program-while the core program in every affiliate is the same, it is flexible enough to allow mentors and students to customize their programs.
