Drinking water industry officials are concerned that if EPA sets an enforceable drinking water limit for the rocket fuel ingredient perchlorate, as the agency is working toward, it will set a worrisome precedent for efforts to set new or strengthen existing rules for other contaminants that many believe may not present significant public health benefits. "If they can have this much of a bull story and get it through, the barn door is open," a water utility source says.
