The first round of United Nations climate talks since the Paris Agreement was finalized six months ago came to a close May 26, with progress on the earliest beginnings of what will become a "rule book" for implementation of the Paris deal marred by unexpected clashes in several areas, including potential conflict-of-interest rules. The Bonn Climate Change Conference got under way May 16 with most of the day in the plenary filled with congratulatory remarks about the Paris Agreement, the world's first global climate pact. But during the course of the talks, the long-standing rift between rich and poor countries-which was briefly bridged in Paris-began to reveal itself.
