The Environmental Protection Agency is working to incorporate environmental justice considerations into its own regulatory programs and to engage states and other federal agencies to do the same, Cynthia Giles, the assistant administrator for the agency's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, said March 11. For the agency, its efforts to consider and act on communities' environmental justice concerns in its regulatory work is exemplified through its proposed refinery rule, Giles said.
