Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz signed a memorandum of understanding with the Edison Electric Institute that aims to accelerate development of plug-in electric vehicles and charging infrastructure throughout the electricity industry. Moniz and EEI President Tom Kuhn signed the memorandum on June 8, the first day of the annual convention in New Orleans for EEI, which represents investor-owned electric companies. "The U.S. transportation system produces a third of the country's carbon emissions, making it essential that we improve plug-in electric vehicle technology and increase their numbers on the road," Moniz said in a statement.
