Peter Davidson, executive director of the Energy Department's Loan Programs Office, is stepping down at the end of June, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said in an e-mail to staff June 9. Davidson, who oversaw a loan portfolio of more than $30 billion, has largely been credited with restarting the department's loan and loan guarantee program, which stalled in the wake of the controversy over Solyndra-the California solar panel manufacturer that went bankrupt after receiving a half-billion-dollar loan guarantee backed by the department. "When Peter joined DOE in May 2013, he brought more than three decades of entrepreneurial and financial expertise to the Department," the memo said. "Under Peter's leadership, LPO restarted its loan activities and many of the projects ... and LPO is now recognized as a leader in the financing of clean energy."
