The number of drinking water systems in serious or repeated violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act fell by nearly 75 percent during the first four years of a Next Generation Compliance strategy, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The number of priority public water systems, or water systems that hit a certain threshold based in part on serious or repeated drinking water violations, dropped from 8,988 facilities to 2,254 facilities between January 2010 and October 2013, the EPA said.
