A significant increase in the Canadian province of Alberta's carbon levy could be absorbed by the oil and gas industry, energy analysts and industry officials told BNA. To comply with provincial targets for reducing carbon intensity, or emissions per unit of production, by 12 percent below a 2003-2005 baseline, large emitters can choose to make facility improvements, purchase Alberta-based carbon offset credits, or pay the levy of C$15 ($14.81) for each metric ton emitted over their targets.
