The Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency should establish "stronger" fuel-economy requirements as they jointly develop fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions standards for certain cars, trucks, and sport-utility vehicles, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and 17 other senators wrote in a letter sent to the agencies April 4. The letter, addressed to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, comes as the two agencies are establishing fuel efficiency and pollution standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks as well as for new cars, light trucks, and SUVs for model years 2017 to 2025.
