A House subcommittee used a fiscal year 2011 appropriations bill July 22 to require a temporary suspension of further leasing or pre-leasing activities for oil and natural gas exploration off the U.S. Atlantic and Pacific coasts and in Alaska's Bristol Bay.rnThe legislation would reinforce decisions already taken by the Obama administration in the wake of the BP Plc oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. At the same time, the bill would almost double the number of inspectors, to 130, for oil and gas operations on the Outer Continental Shelf.
