The federal government should have more information and a formal approval process to determine which chemicals should be used to clean up oil spills and the conditions under which they should be used, scientists told senators Aug. 4.rnThe full Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and its Subcommittee on Oversight held a joint hearing on the use of oil dispersants in the oil spill at a BP well in the Gulf of Mexico.
