Data from Environmental Protection Agency tests on the aquatic toxicity of oil combined with chemical dispersants support the decision to use dispersants as part of the Gulf oil spill cleanup effort, EPA's science adviser told reporters Aug. 2.rnThe data support the decision to use dispersants as a last-resort tool as part of the overall response to the BP oil spill, said Paul Anastas, EPA's science adviser and assistant administrator for research and development. He briefed reporters on the second phase of toxicity tests the agency conducted on combinations of eight dispersants with "sweet" crude oil from Louisiana.
