The Environmental Protection Agency's air office is considering environmental justice data as it targets various industrial sectors for regulation as part of a "more strategic" approach to rulemaking, a senior official told an agency advisory council Nov. 18.rnGina McCarthy, EPA's assistant administrator for air and radiation, told the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council that EPA is targeting the industrial sectors whose emissions pose the greatest community and public health risks as it pursues sector-wide regulations that address all pollutant emissions at one time.rnThe rules, which regulate emissions of both criteria pollutants and air toxics, can provide significant benefits to poor and minority communities where those facilities are typically located, McCarthy said.
