Legislation (H.R. 2190) that would ensure mercury that had been used in closed chlorine production plants could not be exported was introduced April 30 by Rep. Janice D. Schakowsky (D-III.) .rnThe bill retains much of the language in H.R. 2065, which Schakowsky introduced April 23 (40 ER 997, 5/1/09).rnBoth bills would amend the Toxic Substances Control Act to phase out the use of mercury by 2013 in the four plants in the United States that still use it in the manufacture of chlorine and caustic soda.
