The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is implementing a new competitive research program to prevent and control harmful algal blooms, which produce toxins that are detrimental to plants and animals.rnThe program will focus on research on management measures that can be taken to prevent, reduce, control, and mitigate harmful algal blooms, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a Federal Register notice published May 4 (74 Fed. Reg. 20,465).
