The preceding articles have described how the CryoSat mission came about, how it was designed, and how the satellite was put together. Little has yet been said about how we will plan the operations, or about the data that will flow to the scientific community. This last article therefore describes those parts of the overall system that will not be launched into space. They include the control and processing centres, as well as less material things like the operations concept and the approach to validation CryoSat was conceived with clear ideas about the scientific potential of the measurements it would produce. How, shortly before launch, we have accepted 80 proposals from scientific groups who want to exploit this potential, and this article concludes with some examples.
