At home, Atelier DYJG is recognized for the projects of Event Landscape, including their planning and garden design. With Happy Garden, it won a garden award in the competition of the Jinan Garden Festival 2009, in which nine designer gardens were laid out. Now that China has entered the 'fast age', Happy Garden reminds us of what the origin and essence of the garden is: a cultivated landscape.In Happy Garden, the combination of three-dimensional rattan trellises with a rolling wooden deck has created an unexpected variation inspired by the traditional Chinese garden's characteristics, such as the spatial transformation between inside and outside, high and low, light and dark, open and closed. Walking over this floating deck, visitors are able to appreciate the native plants and enjoy the pastoral landscape. For instance, the gourds creeping up along the trellises are the most common crop in a farmhouse courtyard. This produce is not only edible and useful, but also symbolizes well-being, peace and happiness.
