The experiments performed at full mission ship's bridge simulator can form background for various FSAs during harbours and waterways development leading to: design of harbour layout and its positioning, establishing escort and assist tug requirements, establishing maximum wind and current limits, establishing rules for restricted traffic flow, detailed manoeuvring procedures, developing risk assessment matrix, training pilots and tug masters on new procedures and familiarisation with new facilities. The paper presents factors taken into account while evaluating tug assistance parameters for harbour-max ships as result of FMBS (full mission bridge simulation) studies. The particular attention has been given to configuration of a towing bow ASD tug which can be either bow-to-bow or stern-to-bow.
