I recently picked the top 10 business innovations for the first half of 2011. (Go to tinyurl. com/3hrrmom.) For the No. 1 innovation, I picked Linkedln's IPO (initial public offering). "Why that?" some readers asked. "Could it be more important than all those smartphones, tablets and—on the darker side of innovation—increasingly sophisticated hacks and data thefts?" I'd answer, "Yes, it is more important." While a lot of attention is focused on the consumerization of IT and the rise of the mobile Internet, all those entrepreneurs thinking about where they should deploy their talents need a reason to think about the business segment.

While quite a number of English-Japanese dictionaries of business and legal terms have been publishedin Japan, there seem to be very few Japanese-English dictionaries on the market which give clear explanations of thesubtle differences in meaning between the various English equivalents of terms in such specialized fields.
