Social networking compa-nies have spent the past year trying to expand their reach by enticing programmers to come onto their sites and develop applications. Google, Facebook, MySpace and others have unveiled development platforms that officials hope will become another steady revenue stream. However, while there is software being built on these platforms, some industry observers question whether these sites will ever produce enterprise-level applications. Those were the types of questions being asked of programmers who have built applications on Facebook's platform at the Graphing Social Patterns West show here March 3.
