The purpose of this study is to determine whether the genes on chromosome 17 of MSM strain affect the incidence and multiplicity of urethane induced pulmonary adenoma (PA). We used A/Wy (A), C57BL/6 (B6), MSM/Ms (MSM) and C57BL/6J.Chrl7~(MSM)(B6-17MSM) consomic strain that full-length chromosome 17 of MSM has transferred onto the genetic background of B6 by repeated backcrossing. We crossed B6-17MSM consomic, B6, MSM strains and strain A that had high multiplicity of PA. All F1 mice were given a single subcutaneous injection of 1.5 mg urethane/g body weight at 3-4 weeks of age. Six months later, these mice were sacrificed and the number of PA was counted in each lung. (A x B6) Fl mice showed the incidence of PA (100%) and had an average number of PA multiplicity of 13.50 ± 3.78. On the other hand, (A x MSM) F1 mice have 75% incidence and a low number of PA (1.75 ± 1.41). Fl mice betweenA and B6-17MSM consomic strain developed 25.23 ± 7.72 tumors. This result leads to our presumption that the genes on chromosome 17 of MSM strain influence the susceptibility of the multiplicity of PA.
