Investigation of anesthetic agents for ketamine in rabbits

In animal experiments, animal anesthesia is one of a important item. In anesthesia of a rabbit, ketamine has been used well. However, as for the ketamine, use became difficult because it was appointed to a narcotic. We examined anesthesia of a substitute of ketamine in rabbits. Pentobarbital, butorphanol and medetomidine were used as tested anesthetic agents. About individual medicine, the degree of anesthesia was examined with time. Body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, dilation of a pupil and some reflection functions was examined, as an index of anesthesia, Pentobarbital and medetomidine exist sedative effects inconsiderably. Sedation and analgesic effect were recognized to some extent, as for the mixture dosage of medetomidine and butorphanol. However, the surgical anesthesia effect was not provided all. Pentobarbital is not recommended in anesthesia of a rabbit from a respect of the safety. Medetomidine and butorphanol are originally analgesia, sedatives. We review anesthetic agents and relation and dose of experiment treatments sequentially.
