You're heading out the door on your way to school. The weather report said it would rain today, so you grab an umbrella. You make it to school before the bell, and before long, classes are over and there hasn't been a drop of rain all day. How can this be? When the daily weather forecst shows rain, shouldn't there be rain? Wherther it's rain or shine, predicting the weather is not simple. what we call weather includes a lot of conditions such as temperature, wind, rainfall, and sunshine-and it affects us every day. If weather is observed over long perionds of time, it can help us understand the big picture: climate. Climate is the average pattern of weather in a single place, like a city or state, which is similar form year to year.
