In this paper, Acroporella cairensis n. sp. (Dasycladales) from the Barremian of the Monte Cairo area (southern Latium, Italy) is described. The new species is characterized by a small thallus bearing alternate laterals distally ramified into clusters of very short secondary twigs. The laterals, slightly inclined upwards, clearly widen outside. A. cairensis n. sp. differs from Acroporella radoicicae Praturlon, the type species of the genus Acroporella, mostly in being smaller (by about a half or less). As to concern Acroporella ? nissovensis Bakalova, at moment left in open nomenclature due to the lack of secondary laterals, according to the original description, it is characterized by horizontal primary laterals whose diameter is unchanged along the whole length.
