摘要

IMO, EU and other regional regulations aimed at reducing the level of sulphur in ships' fuels are having a detrimental effect on some ships' fuel systems as well as costing owners a small fortune in purchasing fuels at premium rates. With two SECAs already established in European waters and the US/Canada zone coming into force soon there are also plans for other regulated areas to be determined under IMO rules. Meanwhile in the US, California has already established its own regulations and this month Turkey also joined the list of countries imposing a maximum 0.1% sulphur level in fuels for vessels approaching or leaving ports and during their stay at the quay.
