McMurdo has launched two personal locator beacons (PLBs), the FastFind MAX and the Fastfind MAX G, which includes an integral 12-channel GPS. They are suitable for professional and recreational use and, according to the maker, are "attractively priced". The PLBs transmit a unique identification signal along with their current position via the COSPAS SARSAT network on 406MHz. The Fastfind MAX G's GPS receiver gives a typical positional accuracy of +/-62m and new position updates every 20 minutes.
