South Korea's 'Big Three'shipbuilders -Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) - have increased their order targets for 2018 despite persistent challenges. In 2017, HHI exceeded its order target by 33%, recording USD10 billion in orders. SHI barely exceeded its target, achieving USD6.9 billion in orders, while DSME, struggling with a financial crisis, fell short of its USD6.2 billion target, with just USD2 billion in orders. HHI has set an order target of USD13.2 billion for 2018, nearly double that of the USD7.5 billion target for 2017. SHI's 2018 target of USD7.7 billion is up by 18% from its USD6.5 billion target for 2017. Last year, SHI won USD6.9 billion worth of orders.
