There is so little fairplay in the world that it might at first sight appear that in choosing the term as a title for this Journal we were in danger of leaving ourselves without subjects on which to write, or at any rate of exhausting them so rapidly that our functions must quickly cease for want of aliment. But there are two sides to this question as to every other; and if little space is required to deal with matters which are just as they ought to be, volumes might be written on the advantages to be gained by reducing fairplay from theory to practice. If our own efforts in that direction, and with that view, should succeed in arresting attention, we shall have taken the first step towards promoting a reform more valuable than the extension of the franchise - viz., the habit of calling things by their right names, and of looking at them through uncoloured spectacles.
