Shipping lines operating at Port of Singapore will be spared USD11.8 million in port dues in 2016 as the port hopes to shore up box volume. The Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) has taken the step of adding a 10% concession on port dues in reaction to preliminary figures showing that in 2015 the port booked its lowest annual throughput since 2011. The purpose of the "suite of help measures" was to give container lines relief from economic challenges arising in the market, according to a statement from the MPA, which worked with PSA Corporation on the moves.
