Steady growth in fresh food imports to China should lend support to freight rates for reefer cargoes this year even though overall capacity supply may remain in shippers' favour during the peak season. Comments by freight forwarders, shipbrokers, and analysts at this year's Fruit Logistica in Berlin - the leading trade fair for global fruit traders and perishables logistics companies - suggest that equipment and vessel availability for temperature-controlled cargoes is relatively relaxed at the start of this year's southern hemisphere peak export season. This follows last year's slowing in the perishable commodities trades.
