摘要

Japanese shipbuilder Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) is hoping a rise in demand for gas will secure its future. MES, known mostly for building dry bulkers, has been developing medium-size multigas carriers for transporting LNG, ethane, and ethylene. In the coming decade, LNG carriers will be classified as large or medium, and will dock at hub ports all over the world. Ethane and ethylene carriers are expected to become bigger, so MES has developed 'neo82GC', a medium carrier prototype, to cope with the growing demand. Recently, the shipbuilder developed and offered its 'neo' series of eco-friendly dry bulkers. Now it has added liquefied gas carriers to its fleet. MES will collaborate with Norwegian engineering company Moss Maritime in the technical review of 'neo82GC', returning to the LNG scene after a 10-year absence. IHS Maritime Seaweb.com data shows that the last LNG carrier MES delivered was Grand Mereya, which Mitsui OSK Lines ordered in November 2004 and was built by October 2008.
