Despite the current fall in price in oil, on-board efficiency is still a high priority for ship operators. The economic forecast and the low margins typical of this industry mean that the fuel bill is still one of the largest expenses of ship operation and hence operational efficiency remains at the top of the agenda. On top of this, regulatory requirements for on-board stability keep changing. In 2016, tanker operators will be seeing the amendments to MARPOL Annex 1 Ch.4, the IBC and BCH Code and the IGC and GC Code coming into force. These regulations will have a significant impact for many tanker operators as they will need to be able to demonstrate compliance with damage stability regulations, functionality that older Loading Instruments are unlikely to provide. The appropriate solution for most tanker operators will likely be the sourcing of a new Type 3 approved loading instrument.
