Container shipping alliances are causing more capacity to be generated than can be filled, warned Container Trades Statistics CEO Rod Riseborough. "No one wants to build a ship of less than 13,000 teu, but in an alliance there is the feeling that 'If I can't fill the ship, the guy across the road can'. Except he can't fill the ships either and is looking at you to fill them," said Riseborough at JOC's TPM Asia conference, held in Shenzhen, China.
