Gazprom's determination to diversify gas export markets, and reduce the leverage enjoyed by countries through which its pipelines pass, mean that shipping capacity to move LNG will become a more important part of a global growth strategy. Russia, in particular Gazprom, is facing increased competition from LNG exporters and while it aims to bolster its own gas production, growing rivalry from domestic competitors like Rosneft has spurred Gazprom in a bid to lock in a sea-fed supply deal with China.
