A wave of new oil and gas production is lifting US energy exports to unprecedented levels, with the US Gulf Coast reaping the benefits. Long considered one of the world's biggest energy importers, the United States has watched these imports fall recently to a 20-year low. Worse than that, federal data forecasts that they will fall below 5% of total consumption by 2025. However, that decline has been overshadowed by an even bigger increase in exports of refined products, thanks to new technology that allows producers to unlock shale reserves previously out of reach.
